StatusMela has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This page sets out our standards, how to report a concern and what we do about it.

What is not allowed#

Anything that sexualises, exploits or endangers children is banned on StatusMela, in posts, comments, profiles, groups and messages of any kind. This includes:

  • sexual or sexually suggestive images, videos, text or drawings involving anyone under 18, real or computer-made;
  • grooming: trying to build a relationship with a child in order to abuse or exploit them;
  • sextortion, or threats to share intimate images of a child;
  • sharing, asking for, selling or linking to child sexual abuse material;
  • content that praises or encourages the abuse of children;
  • trafficking of children for any purpose.

StatusMela is for people aged 18 and over. Accounts that appear to belong to a child are removed.

How to report#

  • In the app: tap the ⋮ menu on any post, comment, profile or group, choose Report, then Child safety. These reports go to the front of our review queue.
  • By email: write to [email protected] with the link to the post or profile. Do not attach or forward the material itself.
  • If a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 112 or the Childline on 1098. In India you can also report at the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, cybercrime.gov.in.

What we do#

  • We review child safety reports as a priority and remove violating content as soon as we confirm it.
  • Accounts that share or seek such content are permanently banned, and we stop them from coming back where we can.
  • We report child sexual abuse material to the relevant authorities, including Indian law enforcement as required by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and the Information Technology Act, 2000, and to the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where applicable.
  • We keep the evidence that the law requires and share it with law enforcement on a valid request.
  • Uploaded photos and videos pass through automatic safety checks, and our moderation team reviews reports and flagged content.
